Q: Where does the plastic debris go after its been removed from the water?

A: The collected plastic is redirected to recycling services and reused. Sometimes, the debris is sent to our partner research centres for further analysis! We also use plastic for outreach and engagement purposes (e.g., displays, art projects)

Q: Are the organic materials collected composted?

A: No, they are disposed of properly! Even if we think all the plastic has been removed, there is likely more that we can't see and we do not want to risk returning any microplastics into the Great Lakes

Q: How often are the Seabins emptied?

A: Our local partners empty their plastic capture technology every couple of days, while more plastic dense areas may require more maintenance!
